Raise the audio buffer
Open Preferences → I/O and try a larger buffer (many users start at 2048). Latency rises slightly; crackle and hitching often fall.

Space out automatic saves
If note entry stutters every few minutes, open Preferences → General and lengthen or pause automatic save while drafting.

While composing, use lighter SoundFont / basic playback. Switch to richer libraries when you need a final mockup.
