Yes for the desktop editor described here. Softonic lists the Windows program as Free. Uptodown lists pricing as Free with a GPL 2.0 license for the Windows build. You can compose, arrange, and export without paying for the core notation app.
Softonic marks it as a Trusted Program and states the Softonic-tested file passed VirusTotal-based scanning with virus-free, spyware-free, and malware-free results. Still verify the MSI SHA256 published on Uptodown (and repeated on our download page) after you save the installer.
Softonic lists OS as Windows 11 in its app specs. The current Uptodown Windows package is a 64-bit MSI (4.7.4.260706075). Windows 10 64-bit installs are the practical baseline for Studio 4 as well.
Uptodown lists GPL 2.0 for the Windows distribution model. In practice you may run the software freely. If you distribute modified versions of GPL-covered code, you must follow GPL terms. Using MuseScore to write and print your own scores does not place your compositions under the GPL by itself.

No. Uptodown Android describes version 2.14.44 as a sheet-music discovery and practice client (offline scores, metronome, transpose, PDF export) under package com.musescore.playerlite. The Windows MSI 4.7.4 is the full notation studio. Softonic also lists separate Android and Mac pages.

Some Softonic reviewers who used Sibelius previously say MuseScore still trails on certain playback configuration and copy-paste depth, while praising MuseScore's free feature set and approachability. Choose Sibelius if you need its commercial workflow; choose MuseScore if GPL pricing and open tooling matter more.

Uptodown lists 4.7.4.260706075 dated 7 Jul 2026 at 121.89 MB (MSI). Softonic's Windows page header shows 4.7.3.260608135 and also retains older 4.6.x builds in its version list. Prefer the newest MSI you can verify by hash.
